You are now required to make a booking for all campgrounds and campsites in NSW national parks. This includes locations that were previously available for use without a booking. This is necessary to protect our visitors and prevent the spread of COVID-19. Book online or contact the National Parks Contact Centre on 1300 072 757.
This location is a free campground, however a booking fee of $6 per site applies. Money collected will be used to manage campground numbers and improve your safety.
Set up camp at lakeside Three Mile Dam campground, a great base to explore the walks, mountain biking, fishing, and cross-country skiing in central and northern Kosciuszko National Park, near Kiandra and Selwyn snowfields. Camping is free. Bookings are not required at this campground. Campsites are available on a first-in first-served basis.
Sites are unpowered and unmarked and are suitable for tents, camper trailers, caravans and camping beside your vehicle. Facilities include picnic tables, wood barbecue facilities, carpark and non-flush toilets. Dam water is available at this campground, but you'll need to treat or boil it before drinking. Bring your own firewood. Generators are not permitted.
The gate to this campground is closed from the June long weekend to October long weekend. Camping is still possible for walkers.
As well as being unbeatable for fishing, bushwalking and a good dose of outdoor relaxation, Three Mile Dam campground offers Aussie heritage in spades.
Established during the Kiandra gold-mining era, the dam provided water for sluicing operations via race lines to Kiandra (New Chum Hill). Its eastern side was part of the Snowy Mountains Hydro Electric Scheme.
There are no marked sites but you'll find plenty of room for your tent, camper trailer or caravan amidst the grassy sub-alpine woodland. Bask in the shelter of the surrounding snow gums, and make use of the handy facilities including barbecues and picnic tables.
