Siding Spring Observatory (SSO), on the edge of the Warrumbungle National Park near Coonabarabran, NSW, is Australia's premier optical and infrared astronomical observatory.
Siding Spring Observatory (SSO) is a working research facility and as such is not open at night for public viewing. Siding Spring Observatory is closed to the general public after 4pm.
Cars towing caravans or trailers are not permitted up the winding narrow observatory road. There is designated parking at the bottom of the mountain before turning onto SSO Mountain Road.
As a general guide, the Dome Cafe is open from 8:30am-4:00pm each day except Tuesday. The exploratory area is open to the public everyday from 8:30am-4:00pm
There are tours running each day, online booking is available.
No camping or overnight parking allowed.
