Enjoy your experience! ----- Darwin is Australia's only tropical capital city and is the largest city in the Northern Territory. It is a former frontier outpost and the gateway to Kakadu National Park. Darwin is treasured country to its traditional owners, the Larrakia people, who are prominent and active members of the local community. A multicultural city, it boasts a population made up of people from more than 60 nationalities and 70 different ethnic backgrounds. The day starts with a visit to the Darwin Aviation Museum, to learn about the city's aviation history. You can check out a B-52 Bomber, which is on permanent loan from the United States Air Force, plus there are 19 other aircraft on display. There's also rare amateur footage of the air-raid on Darwin and original footage from Japanese archives. Next, spend time exploring the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, which is home to the largest permanent display of Aboriginal art in Australia. It sits in a scenic location overlooking Fannie Bay and has a dynamic program of exhibitions and carefully curated collections. Then it's on to the Darwin Botanic Garden, where you can wander among nature and learn about the gardens' natural and cultural history. It's one of the few botanic gardens in the world that has marine and estuarine plants naturally on its grounds. Then, the final component of this half-day exploration is a tour of the city to take in all the must-see sights.
