Cruise downstream from the port of Goolwa along the historic wharf and towards the Goolwa Barrage. This section of the river was the scene of the first paddle steamers. The river here offers the greatest range of scenic variety, flowing through dairy farmland, willow-lined riverbanks, spectacular high golden cliffs, station country, river flats and irrigated orchards.
Murray Mouth is the point at which the River Murray meets the Southern Ocean, it's location is usually changeable. Historical records show that the channel out to sea moves along the sand dunes over time. The mouth of the Murray River is located about 75 kilometres south of the Adelaide city centre. During the 19th century with the discovery of gold, the river became a major thoroughfare for the carriage of goods and produce.
This Murray Mouth cruise passes through a number of major towns, under bridges, and through 5 locks. Birdlife abounds and this section is rich in Indigenous and European history. You'll also spot a few seals laying out in the sun! The tour meanders along the waterways of the Coorong, following the last kilometres of the mighty Murray River to the Murray Mouth and its opening to the Southern Ocean.
On this tour, you'll see beautiful scenery, bird-life, and seals. This 90-minute tour provides expert commentary on the wildlife and history of the Coorong region. It's an excellent experience to learn about South Australia's rich history.
