Waterworks Reserve
Day Use AreaDescription
First constructed in the 1860s, the Waterworks reservoirs capture the flow of creeks and rivers rising on the higher slopes of Mt Wellington.
The tree-shaded lawns and children's play areas of the Waterworks are popular for picnics and barbecues. For the energetic, walking tracks wander around the reservoirs and up into the bushland of Ridgeway towards the water's mountain source.
There are three barbecue sites just inside the main gate which do not require a booking to be made. Sites are allocated on a first come basis. Each site contains a gas barbecue. All are wheelchair accessible. All other sites within the reserve require bookings.
The Reserve is open every day of the year, including Christmas Day, with the gates opening at 8 am and closing at 4 pm during winter and 9 pm during the daylight saving period. Outside these hours, pedestrian access is available through the turnstile adjacent to the main gate.
Dogs not permitted.
No camping or overnight parking.
