Johnny Souey Cove Campsite (Hike In)
CampgroundDescription
This is a hike-in campsite amongst bracken ferns. A short 50m walk to the beach.
Hikers are encouraged to be experienced in navigation, self sufficiency, have a PLB, and be physically fit.
Bookings are required as the camp site is small. This is a paid camp site.
Water could be available when weather has been wet, at two streams near by at the beach. The water can be brackish, at high tide as the stream connects to the beach. Head up stream to get fresher water. Water will need to be treated.
The track in continues north or south of here. South to 5 mile beach, an easily navigatable track. North over the headland is very difficult to navigate and can take 3 hours for experienced hikers. The track has not been maintained and the scrub for a large part is completely over grown. Navigation skills are essential. Many instead begin on the track and instead of heading up and over the headland, they head down to trace the rocks around the base. If this is your tact, best to attempt this traverse at low tide.
