Kow Swamp is a large water storage with a circumference of 15 kilometres and a capacity of 50,910 megalitres. It is a large expanse of swampy wetlands and vegetation, and home to numerous bird species.
Kow Swamp remains of the Pleistocene epoch aboriginal population are re-dated to more than 20,000 years old.
The Kow Swamp remains are the worlds largest single population of human remains from the late Pleistocene era (120,00010,000 years).
Campaspe Shire Council has approved the removal of outdated facilities on the Kow Swamp Lions Park site, including the toilet block, BBQ shelter and BBQ. Varying water levels have impacted the land causing bank erosion and exposing burial sites.
No camping or overnight parking.
