Take a trip to the Bellarine Peninsula, one of the best places to visit in Victoria. Discover gourmet food, wineries, seaside villages, fantastic beaches, and vintage markets.
Start the day with pick-ups from your Melbourne accommodation, driving directly to the Bellarine Peninsula, one of the hidden treasures of Victoria.
The Bellarine Peninsula is an easily navigated peninsula of land at the entrance to Port Phillip. It has a significant maritime history and features both bayside and ocean beach towns, all within easy reach of the major city of Geelong.
The first stop is Oakdene Vineyards for a wine tasting. It's a boutique family-owned vineyard that makes the most of the cool, maritime climate to produce high-quality fruit, which translates to an incredible collection of red, white, and sparkling wines.
Next, it's on to the foreshore of Portarlington to enjoy the village and views and take a stroll around town. With the waters of Port Phillip Bay lapping at the shore, this town is famous for its Australian Blue Mussels, celebrated each year with the Portarlington Mussel Festival in January.
Having worked up an appetite, it's time for lunch at Bennetts on Bellarine. Indulge in a tasting board composed of 8 wines with food pairings that change seasonally. This is an interactive food and wine experience that highlights the best of the Bellarine. Relax and enjoy learning about the local products created by businesses and artisans from this bountiful region.
After a delicious lunch, you'll head to the last vineyard for the day, Scotchmans Hill, to taste another five premium cool climate wines. This winery was established in 1982 and is rated among James Halliday's Top 100 Australian Wineries.
Finally, it's time to head back to Melbourne, arriving around 5:30 pm, just in time for dinner.
