Only 1 hr east of Melbourne is the beautiful Dandenong Ranges. Let your guide show you what the area has to offer, and explore nature at its best.
Departing Melbourne, travel east to the first stop Grant's Picnic Ground where your first activity of the day will be a short stroll through the magnificent rain forest. If you stay quiet and walk gently, you might even be lucky enough to spot the elusive lyrebird. Otherwise, there is plenty of other birdlife, including parrots to catch your attention.
After the forest walk, sit down to Devonshire Tea with wattle seed scones while you take in the splendours of this natural wonderland.
Next, head to the Puffing Billy to drop off the passengers that opted in for the train ride. This century-old steam train continues to run on its original mountain track from Belgrave to Gembrook in the magnificent Dandenong Ranges. Step back in time as you enjoy this authentic experience, with lush fern gullies brushing past and Mountain Ash trees towering overhead. It makes for a wonderful opportunity to relax and breathe in the fresh air whilst the train makes its way through the temperate rainforest.
After Puffing Billy, take a slow drive through the remainder of the forest, stopping to visit one of the quaint villages along the way. Here you will have time to get some lunch (not included) or just browse through the local shops. Then it's time to return to Melbourne.
