----- Take your budget further and get 5% off when you use the code WELWIKI5 on your booking through the link on WikiCamps. Enjoy your experience! ----- Located only 90 minutes from Melbourne CBD, Lake Mountain is Melbourne's closest snow resort...and arguably one of the region's best! Full of lush powder and beautiful snowy landscapes, it's the perfect place to indulge in some snowy fun. Dubbed the ideal tour for those first time snow visitors and seasoned travellers alike, you'll start your day with a short drive as you head out of Melbourne toward Lake Mountain. Located 120 km northeast of Melbourne, Lake Mountain Alpine Resort is a great spot to play in the snow and experience a modern ski resort. Named after George Lake who was the area's surveyor-general, Lake Mountain has the highest altitude of 1,480m with a based altitude of 1,340m above sea level. It has a total skiable area of 2,400 hectares, 37km of ski trails...plus three toboggan slopes. Plenty of room for snow fun! On your way to Lake Mountain, we'll make a sto at either Yarra Valley Gateway Estate Coldstream or Beechworth Bakery to grab some lunch (own expense). You'll then get to enjoy three hours of snow fun, so spend some time building your own snowman, tobogganing, or take a cross-country ski lesson. Or for those not confident skiing, just throw some snowballs and enjoy the frosty surrounds! Oh, and you'll be driven right up to the snow, so you don't have to lift your ski or transfer buses. Easy! Later in the afternoon it's time for a 700m walk to the spectacular Steavenson Falls. These are one of the highest waterfalls in Victoria, named after John Steavenson, an Assistant Commissioner of Roads and Bridges who visited Marysville in 1862.
