Description

Banksia Camp is non-bookable. Camping fees apply. Banksia Camp is approximately 30 minutes from Walpole. Access to Banksia Camp is four-wheel drive only. Be sure to reduce your tyre pressures when driving on sand. Banksia Camp is a great choice for a family holiday, with camping and fishing and spectacular coastal views across to Chatham Island. D'Entrecasteaux National Park boasts some of the best coastline in the world and the beach at Banksia Camp is no exception. Its pristine waters and bright white sand are impressive. Fishing off the rocks at Banksia Camp can be very rewarding but remember that rock fishing can be dangerous. The track to the camp takes you through coastal heathland, which comes alive with colour in the wildflower season. The current Banksia Hut replaced the old hut that was erected back in 1965. Banksia Hut is a roomy shelter containing four bedrooms and a common area that is designed to accommodate 12 people comfortably. The hut cannot be pre-booked or reserved so visitors are advised to carry a tent in case it is occupied on arrival. Rainwater is provided at the hut for all visitors to Banksia Camp. Please use this resource sparingly as it is limited. The purity of water cannot be guaranteed; therefore, it should be treated before drinking. Be aware that this facility is provided for all visitors so please limit your stay to three nights to allow other people to enjoy this experience. Camping fees apply. Campfires are usually permitted, in the provided fire rings only, between April 15 and November 30 but fire restrictions may be imposed at any time. Facilities available: toilets, picnic shelter and seasonal camp fires* (in fire pits only) Dogs are not permitted in this park.
