Coongan Long Pool
CampgroundDescription
This campground can be accessed by going through a gate on the right hand side just before you get to the Coongan River Crossing coming from Marble Bar (or on the left hand side after the River Crossing coming from the Great Northern Hey). The dirt road in is a bit challenging for big rigs but it's short (3km) and doable.
There are some spot around the loop track but further on along the pool the camp opens up with numerous spots on the shore and a short distance away from the water.
You need to be self sufficient as there are no facilities at all. There is water all year around in the pond which attracts a large variety of birds. Swimming is possible at your own risk. During the dry season the water is not flowing and may turn dark and submersed tree branches may not be visible. The water quality becomes poor and is not consumable.
Campfires are possible unless the shire has flagged a high fire risk. Responsible pet owner may bring their dog. Please keep the place tidy and take your rubbish. Environmental observers are now everywhere. Thanks for keeping this a free fun place.
