Swan gully
CampgroundDescription
A limited space location to camp on the banks of a river, north along the coast from Cape Riche.
The sandy clearing along the river can fit a few vehicles and camp setups in, tightly packed together, where as the spot back from the river is on a rocky clearing and although could fit a couple of vehicles with their respective setups, it's exposed to the wind coming off the Southern Ocean up there.
The track to get in, is fairly rough, but nothing a 4WD can't handle, although I'd be hesitant bringing any kind of trailer in, as there are some severe washouts on rocky uphill slopes, that require clever navigation.
Even on the Easter long weekend this spot was only used by two groups of campers, the track in, is enough of a deterrent to most.
The River is beautiful and great for Kayaking up, there is fish in the river and beach fishing for Salmon was successful to.
At the time I was there, there was no access to this location via the beach, only the overland track that follows the coast. The sand at the beach is very soft, so be aware if you plan on doing some beach driving.
It's a beaut spot, but be prepared for the weather if it's windy.
