The monks welcome you to New Norcia, Australia's only monastic town. Join a Guide Town Walking Tour and let the experienced guides unravel the unique history and show you the hidden artworks of New Norcia. Lose yourself in the Museum and Art Gallery where an eclectic array of Mission and Monastery memorabilia is displayed alongside European religious art and contemporary Australian Art works. It also houses the beautiful Charles Austin Gardiner exhibition of botanic drawings. Experience a 1,500 year old tradition and join our monks in the Monastery oratory for prayers (six times daily). Start at the Visitor Centre in the Museum and Art Gallery to get a brochure and information about our monastic town and its surrounding areas. Stroll up the hill to the grand New Norcia Hotel and linger over a delicious meal, a glass of Australia's premier Abbey Ale or a glass of wine, port or muscat from the Abbey Wines Range. Explore a little further pick up a River Walk brochure from the Museum and Art Gallery and wander over the Moore River to the old Apiary behind the Monastery. Visit the new Mission Cottages Interpretation Centre and learn more about the Aboriginal families that lived and worked in New Norcia. Book into a retreat in the Monastery Guesthouse.
